FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  1. What is your theoretical orientation? I am behaviorally and cognitively-behaviorally trained, so I utilize interventions from those two evidence-based therapeutic approaches. I also draw from other theoretical orientations and use a variety of techniques to provide the best care possible for my clients and their families (e.g., Family Systems Theory, Executive Function Coaching, Art Therapy, Zones of Regulation curriculum to improve emotional regulation, etc.).
  2. What is your approach to working with children? I understand that going to a "doctor" of any kind can be anxiety-provoking for children, especially when they don't know what to expect. I absolutely love working with children and teens, and I hope that my passion comes through. I utilize a "coach-player" analogy to help my clients understand that we are working as a team to help make the hard things easier (i.e., school and learning, friendships, emotional regulation, relationships with parents, anxiety, depression, or other challenges in their lives).
  3. Do you provide faith-based counseling services? I believe in treating the whole child--including cognitive, academic, physical, emotional, social, and spiritual aspects--so I incorporate my Christian values in counseling as appropriate and welcomed by my clients and their families.
  4. Do you charge for telephone consultation services? No, I do not charge for telephone consultations. A big part of my mission is to help families find the best support possible, regardless of who provides those services.
  5. Do you bill insurance directly?  I am not "in-network" for any insurance company, so I do not bill insurance companies directly. I am a "fee-for-service" provider, which means clients pay me directly at the time services are provided. I provide a Super Bill with CPT and diagnostic codes that clients can submit to their insurance company for reimbursement at the out-of-network rate. It is up to the family to contact their insurance company to find out what services are covered and their out-of-network reimbursement rate.
  6. Do you accept HSA, credit, or debit cards? I accept checks, cash, or Zelle transfers as payment for my services, but I am NOT currently set up to accept debit or credit cards. Parents can utilize HSA funds by requesting that a check be written from their HSA account for a predetermined amount.
  7. What is your availability? Unfortunately, I am not accepting new clients at this time due to my full-time employment with a nonprofit organization serving disadvantaged youth and families. Please email me at drmott@drmott.com if you would like help securing services from other community professionals who can meet your family's needs.
