FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  1. What is your theoretical orientation? I am behaviorally and cognitively-behaviorally trained, so I utilize interventions from those two evidence-based therapeutic approaches. I also draw from other theoretical orientations and use a variety of techniques to provide the best care possible for my clients and their families (e.g., Family Systems Theory, Executive Function Coaching, Art Therapy, Zones of Regulation curriculum to improve emotional regulation, etc.).
  2. What is your approach to working with children? I understand that going to a "doctor" of any kind can be anxiety-provoking for children, especially when they don't know what to expect. I absolutely love working with children and teens, and I hope that my passion shines through to them. I utilize a "coach-player" analogy to help my clients understand that we are working as a team to help make the hard things easier for them (i.e., school/ learning, friendships, emotional regulation, relationships with parents, anxiety, depression, or other challenges in their lives).
  3. Do you provide faith-based counseling services? I believe in treating the whole child--including cognitive, academic, physical, emotional, social, and spiritual aspects--so I incorporate my Christian values in counseling as appropriate and welcomed by my clients and their families.
  4. Do you charge for telephone consultation services? No, I do not charge for telephone consultations. A big part of my mission is to help families find the best support possible, regardless of who provides the services.
  5. Do you bill insurance directly?  I am not "in-network" for any insurance company, so I do not bill insurance companies directly. I am a "fee-for-service" provider, which means clients pay me directly at the time services are provided. I provide a "Super Bill" with CPT and diagnostic codes that clients can submit to their insurance company  for reimbursement at the out-of-network rate. It is up to the family to contact their insurance company to find out what services are covered and their out-of-network reimbursement rate.
  6. Do you accept HSA, credit, or debit cards? I prefer checks or cash as payment for my services. Parents can utilize HSA funds by requesting that a check be written from their HSA account for a predetermined amount. I also have the ability to accept credit card payments through www.eTherapyfinder.com (a HIPAA-compliant website) if families complete the brief registration process. There is a 3.5% convenience charge for using this credit card service.
  7. What is your availability? I make every effort to accommodate the needs and schedules of my clients. My typical office hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., but I can arrange appointments at other times upon request.
